Maple-Brown Abbott was established as an investment management firm in 1984 by Robert Maple-Brown and Chris Abbott. Robert and Chris were colleagues at Rothschild Australia prior to establishing Maple-Brown Abbott. Robert’s value based investment philosophy started the tradition of value investing in the Australian market. The firm has employed the same value philosophy throughout its history and has always been committed to fundamental stock research. Robert was the managing director up until 2000 and is now non-executive Chairman. Prior to that Chris was Chairman and remained as a non-executive Director until 2006. Both Robert and Chris continue to own significant holdings in the firm.
